FAQ

Announcement: Kawa Kon (Kawa Con) is NOT Anime St. Louis!
Katrina Johnson and Mikail Lynn, former Anime St. Louis staff members, stole the domain name for the Anime St. Louis website (animestl.com), and are now claiming their new convention, "Kawa Kon," as "The New Anime St. Louis," which is incorrect information. The original staff continues to work to provide St. Louis anime fans with the AnimeStL Convention for the upcomming 2009 season, and are currently seeking legal action agains Katrina and Mikail for the missappropriation of the Anime St. Louis Convention's name.
Note: "Kawa Kon" is NOT Anime St. Louis!
- What is Anime St. Louis?
- Anime St. Louis, founded in 2006, is an independently owned and operated convention that celebrates the culture and history of Japanese animation and manga. The convention founder, Alisha Bingham, has since gone on to get her masters degree and left the convention in the capable hands of former treasurer, Nick Frank. 2009 will be our fourth convention, and the biggest year yet!
- How long is the convention?
- While the con started as a small affair, it has grown into a sprawling 3 day festival that starts in the early afternoon on Friday and doesn't let up until Sunday evening.
- When is the convention this year?
- Check back later for more detailed information as far as the when and where of the convention in 2009.
2. Staff
- Who do I talk to if I have specific questions?
- Check our Meet the Staff page for email addresses of our current staff members. If none of the job descriptions really fit under your question, feel free to email our general account here.
- How do I become a Volunteer?
- As the days count down to closer to the convention, we will post more information about how to sign up to help us out at the convention (and in doing so, help yourself! Psst... It's free if you work enough hours!).
- How do I become staff?
- The first step is you wait for us to get to the point where we're hiring out to fill our staff needs. Then, you submit a resume to us and we interview you for the position. If we like you, we keep you. It's kind of like pet adoption day, but we judge you on how well you'll fit our work needs more so than your cute floppy ears.
3. Programming
- What all will there be to do at the convention?
- The better question is what's NOT going on at the convention! There will be entertaining panels, celebrity guests, game shows, dances, concerts, and a packed dealer's room full of shiny things to buy. That's not even the tip of the iceberg!
- What kind of dances will there be?
- In the past, we've tried to have one rave on Saturday, and a specialized flashback/rock dance on Friday. While we're not sure what the exact details are yet, you can be assured that there will still be at least two major dances.
- How can I run a panel?
- If you have interest in running a panel, keep the idea in mind. While we're not working on the schedule of programming just yet, we will get there soon. Our Programming Director, Julie, will have information then about submitting your panel ideas.
4. Guests
- Who are your guests this year?
- While we haven't decided on guests just yet, keep checking back for news and updates about our special guests for the year. We have our sights set high this year, and we'll do our best to bring you the guests you want.
- I have this great idea for a guest or musical guest. How do I send it to you?
- If you'd like to see a guest or band at Anime St. Louis, post the idea under our event forums in the guest thread. We check the thread daily and make notes about what names continue to come up in it constantly from different people. While this isn't the end all be all voice of what makes us decide on a guest, it certainly influences our decisions greatly.
5. Registration
- When will pre-registration begin?
- Once our database is skimmed and our contact list rebuilt, we'll send out emails announcing the new year's pre-registration for attendees. Then, our dealer's room and artist alley coordinators will have the forms they want uploaded, and there will be another announcement sent to the involved parties for those pre-registrations. In other words, keep checking back for more information!
6. Advertising
- How do I advertise with Anime St. Louis or attain sponsorship?
- Send an email to our marketing director, Cat Thompson. She'll get you hooked up. Our convention reaches over 1400 would-be customers, and as shown by our date auctions, they all have LOTS of spending money.
